Count your Blessings and Say your ABC’s

Ever have a night where sleep did not come easily?  The burdens of the day are weighing heavily on you.  Perhaps you are worried about some upcoming event or perhaps you just worry about the unknowns of life. Trust me, I am a worrier and there are many nights that it takes hours for me to fall asleep.  My mind races from one thought to the next.  As I get older, and maybe a little wiser, I am discovering that this type of thought process is futile.

Once during the wee hours, I recalled a song from a Christmas movie I had watched.  In the movie, two of the actors sang a song about counting their blessings when they could not sleep.  I thought to myself, “Why not give that a try?”  I did and realized just how blessed I am. I actually settled down and went to sleep.

Since that time, I have done some adapting to this nighttime ritual.  Oh, I still count my blessings and often just thank God over and over for all He has done for me.  However, now I have incorporated the ABC’s.  For each letter, I give God a name or assign a characteristic to Him.  It goes something like this:

A-Alpha

B-Bright Morning Star

C-Comforter

D-Deliverer

E-Everlasting and Eternal

F-Friend

G-Glorious

H-Holy

I-Invisible

J-Just

K-King of Kings

L-Lord of Lords

M-Majestic and Mighty

N-Never-ending Love

O-Omega

P-Powerful

Q-Quieter of my weary soul

R-Reliable

S-Savior of the lost

T-Trustworthy

U-Understanding

V-Victorious

W-Warrior

X-Excited to welcome us home

Y-Yahweh

Z-Zealous for His children

Ministers’ wives are often overwhelmed and face trials in ministry.  Instead of letting the blues get you try to count your blessings and say your ABC’s.
