About Arkansas Baptist Ministers' Wives

A Common Bond is a community of Arkansas Baptist ministers’ wives, seeking to find ways to maintain relationships and connectedness despite the miles that separate us.

Journal Time

As October ticks away, we draw closer to the holiday season. Is it a busy time in your ministry? What suggestions can you offer to encourage your fellow ministers’ wives to keep the season as simple as possible? What are ways you draw together as a family?

Link Friday & Journal Time

We don’t always have links to share for Link Friday, so beginning this month, the odd-numbered Fridays will now be primarily devoted to Journal Time. When we have links as well, we will combine the two!

Link Friday

I do have a link to share with you that can tie right into a Journal Time discussion. Author and homeschool mom Tricia Goyer shares these thoughts about raising homeschool children with a heart for missions. (Click on the image below for the article.)

Fostering Your Homeschooled Child's Heart for World Missions

But, I don’t think this should be limited to homeschool children. What about the children of ministers? How can we actively foster mission-minded children? Obviously, Tricia’s suggestions are applicable to just about any Christian family, but are there other suggestions more specific to the children of ministers?

Which leads to…

Journal Time

Did you read Kelly’s post yesterday? If not, read that first!

Since we have a spot for the initial journal discussion in that comment stream, let’s focus our first Journal Time discussion on the idea of teaching missions. What has God taught you about being missions-minded over the years? Do you have journal entries that show God at work in your heart? Have you seen Him at work in the hearts of your children or in the hearts of those to whom you minister? Please share what God’s been doing in your life! May we learn and grow from this peek into each other’s journals.

Our Favorite Things

Imagine you’ve been in a tough time in ministry. For some of us, that won’t be a stretch! You’re praying for perspective, help, and encouragement. Out of the blue, a fresh, young minister’s wife approaches you, full of life and energy and excitement.

Knowing the struggle you’ve been through lately, you want to tell her to turn and run. Hard! Fast! NOW! You want to spare her the struggle and the heartache and the pain. But, she asks you a question. One simple question. At first you don’t want to answer her question. But then you remember the prayer you just prayed, and you realize that God might be answering it through this young whipper-snapper.

What, you wonder, has she asked?

What is your favorite thing about being a minister’s wife?

What would your answer be?

Link Friday

Here’s a post from a pastor’s wife to those who are not in the ministry.

20 Things Every Pastor’s Wife Wants You to Know About Her

What do you think?

Do you agree with the list? Disagree?

What might you add?

For those of you whose husbands are in ministry roles other than “pastor,” what would you add or change?
